Independent Contractor Notice: By submitting this application you confirm that you are registering as an independent contractor, not an employee of NorthRun. You are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and compliance with Alberta traffic laws. NorthRun's platform fee of 10% is deducted from each completed transaction before payout.
Insurance Requirement: Standard personal auto insurance policies in Alberta (SPF No. 1) do not cover for-hire delivery or rideshare activities. Before accepting bookings, you must notify your insurance provider and obtain a business-use endorsement or rideshare/delivery rider. NorthRun does not provide insurance to drivers. Failure to carry appropriate coverage may result in a denied claim in the event of an accident.
Tax Notice (CRA): NorthRun drivers are self-employed independent contractors. If you offer rideshare services, you are considered a taxi operator under the Excise Tax Act and must register for GST/HST regardless of your income level. If you offer delivery only, GST/HST registration is required once your total annual self-employment income exceeds $30,000. All NorthRun earnings must be reported as self-employment income on your T1. NorthRun does not remit taxes on your behalf. Consult a tax professional at canada.ca/cra.
